Academic

The course prepares you to deal with dive emergencies using a variety of techniques. Through knowledge development and rescue exercises, you learn what to look for and how to respond. During rescue scenarios, you practice your knowledge and skills. Topics include:

  • Self-rescue
  • Recognizing and managing stress in other divers
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Rescuing panicked divers
  • Rescuing unresponsive divers

Equipment

Basic scuba equipment, and a pocket mask to practice in-water resuscitation. During exercises, you will work with an oxygen unit, floats, marker buoys and CPR mannequins.

Age Requirement:

SDI 15 or older

PADI 12 or older

SDI Course prerequisites:

Minimum age 15

Proof of current CPR, first aid and oxygen (O2) provider certification

Proof of SDI Advanced Adventure Diver certification, or equivalent, or open water diver certification and 40 logged open water dives

PADI Course Prerequisites

Advanced Open Water

Proof of current CPR, first aid and oxygen (O2) provider certification

Time Commitment

Approximately 10-12 hours of study, 1 weekend in the pool, 1 weekend open water.
