“We can do a better job if we do it ourselves.”

We’d been teaching for another dive shop and doing what almost every scuba instructor does. We taught big classes to people who ended up being “good enough to pass the course.” They didn’t look or feel great in the water, but they’d met the (minimum) standards. We were sick of doing things the same old way and getting marginal results.

We knew we could make better divers, divers who’d love diving as much as we do if we started our own company. So we did a little “back of the napkin” math over lunch and the result is today’s Viking Dives.

We do more than our customers expect.

Here’s a little secret: most dive centers discount their initial training to get you in the door, then they try and sell you over-priced gear to make a profit.

We decided to concentrate on training divers and that we would only stock equipment that we liked and that we’d use ourselves. We aren’t angling to sell you the highest-margin regulators or masks that cost twice as much because they have a logo stamped on them. We will show you the advantages and disadvantages for any particular piece of equipment, and give you our best advice.

Sometimes that means we lose a sale, and that’s ok. We’re going to treat you like you’re friends and family. Sometimes the best piece of equipment or the best course of training isn’t going to come from us, and we would rather keep your trust than give you what you don’t need.

Unlike most dive shops, we don’t have a problem keeping customers. Once you take a course with us, you’ll see the difference between how you have been trained and how others get trained. You’ll feel comfortable in the water. You’ll want to dive more because you’re a better diver.

Some people are looking for cheap and quick certifications. That’s not us. We won’t sacrifice quality training for the sake of money or time. When you train with us, you get individual attention and training that fits with your abilities.

Whether you’re taking your first class, or you’ve been diving for years, we are going to tailor our classes to you. If that means we have to have multiple pool sessions, so we can get you comfortable in the water, then that’s what we do.
