Are scuba and Albuquerque a thing? Yes. All of these things belong together! The cast of Sesame Street might not have agreed, but they’d be wrong. Albuquerque and New Mexico offer plenty of opportunities to scuba dive (adobe needs water, right?). Not only is Scuba training available, New Mexico offers some of the best diving in the Southwest. Viking Dives will get you scuba diving! Our dive shop offers certification courses for a variety of PADI, SDI, and TDI courses, but this post will take a closer look at some of the top scuba diving options in Albuquerque and the surrounding area.

When choosing a scuba diving certification agency, you may be wondering whether to go with PADI or SDI. Both organizations are reputable and well-respected in the industry, and they offer a range of courses and certifications for divers of all levels. PADI, or the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, is one of the largest and most well-known scuba diving certification agencies in the world. SDI, or Scuba Diving International, is another popular certification agency offering various courses and certifications for divers. For our dive shop’s customers, the choice between PADI and SDI is one of price. We pay less for course materials and certification with SDI, and we pass those savings on to our customers. You can learn more about the differences here.

If you’re looking for some of the best spots in the state, there are a few places you won’t want to miss. One of the most popular diving destinations in the area is the Blue Hole, an artesian well located in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. The Blue Hole is known for its crystal clear waters and diverse aquatic life, including a variety of fish, turtles, and even a resident alligator. Ok, maybe we are joking, but you WILL get very good visibility, crawfish, one catfish, and a couple of carp. The water is just 62 degrees, so you can watch the steam rise In the winter and cool off in the summer. Perch Lake, also in Santa Rosa, offers a sunken airplane and a VW bug.

Before you can get to the bottom of either lake, you’re going to have to learn to dive. If that sounds appealing, you can call, text or email us. An even better choice would be to fill out the quick survey below to see if what you want and what we do is a good match.
